Patricia is probably the eighty-eighth of the known bishops of this Isle, where the recorded history of the Christian faith stretches back over 1,500 years. Over the past twenty or so years Patricia, or Tricia, has appreciated getting to know something of the rich history, faith, beauty and life of the Island through personal connections and visits.

Having been born in Malaysia, where she spent her early years, Patricia grew up in a Lincolnshire village. She later moved to the East End of London, where she and her husband Andrew met. After working as a youth and community worker in Stepney and Bethnal Green Tricia trained as a social worker. During her social work career Tricia worked alongside adults and children with HIV and AIDS, adults with physical disabilities and adults with learning disabilities. Tricia and Andrew had been married for over 37 years during which time Andrew too had an extensive career in social care, including serving as an Assistant Chief Officer with the London Probation Service. Before moving to the Island in February of this year Andrew had served as the Head of a highly performing Youth Justice Service in Inner London. As some may know Andrew experienced the onset of sudden illness and his death, from cancer occurred this summer.

Andrew was deeply supportive of Tricia’s work and ministry. She was ordained in 2002 and has greatly enjoyed ministering in churches which have been rooted within their own contexts and communities. From 2014 to 2020 Tricia was a member of the senior team of St Paul’s Cathedral, in London. She left to become the Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons, and additionally, from 2021, she joined the senior team of Westminster Abbey. Tricia’s close family extends across Malaysia, Japan and Australia the United Kingdom here on the Island. Family members include Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and atheists as well as Christians. Her areas of interest include faith and the public square, community engagement, interfaith relations, diversity and inclusion, mediation and reconciliation. She has an MSc in Conflict Resolution. Tricia greatly enjoys live music and other arts, current affairs and social history. She is energised and sustained by time in the natural world and alongside people. She enjoys travel and hiking and has appreciated being able to combine both in places such as Nepal and South America through hiking in the Himalayas, the Andes and on Mount Kilimanjaro. The beauty and culture of the Isle of Man is providing much joy. In time Tricia hopes to be able to return to some other loves: pottery and watching live
football.
